A national public transport event in Romania
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania · 27 and 28 October 2022
The Romanian Smart City Association (ARSC) organised the National Public Transport Congress (ROPAT) on 27-28 October 2022 at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania.
ROPAT 2022 brought together representatives of public administration, transport operators and the public transport industry, around topics of strategic importance for the development of public transport.
Over two days, the discussions covered issues that matter to public transport, among them the metropolitan train project and the impact of traffic generators on public transport in the context of urban development and economic growth. Several proposals were made to improve current legislation.
A key topic was the metropolitan train. Ionel Irinel Scrioșteanu, State Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, explained that in future some trains, such as those linking regions, could run as metropolitan trains as they leave one region and as they arrive in the destination region.
Ștefan Roșeanu, President of the Railway Reform Authority (ARF), said that the project launched in the Bucharest - Ilfov region was already seen as a necessity both by central government and by the public, who understood how useful and efficient rail public transport is. He added that other Romanian cities had developed similar metropolitan train projects, so legislative changes would follow to encourage and support them.
The National Public Transport Congress - ROPAT 2022 was moderated by Teodora Iacob and Adrian Cojocaru. The thematic panels on rail transport and passenger public transport solutions were moderated by Prof. Dr. Eng. Florin Nemțanu, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Transport, Politehnica University of Bucharest.
At the ROPAT 2022 Gala, 17 awards were presented to projects, solutions and initiatives in the sector.
